Sad Day

I am sorry there have been no pictures in my last couple posts. I do not have internet at my new house yet so I write posts on friends computers and do not have my pictures on there. When I do have internet again I will post belly pictures and this weekend Chase and I are taking pregnancy pictures with my friend Ashley so I will try to get those up. 29 weeks along! Can't believe it.

Friday October 29, 2010 I left for my lunch break at 1:00pm. I picked up my lunch and was on my way to my friends house to eat it when I got a phone call from my Dad. He asked me if anyone had got ahold of me to tell me anything yet,(which I do NOT like the sounds of already) I said no. He then told me that one of our dogs had got hit on the highway. 'Are you serious?' I asked first. He was. 'Which one?' Was my next question. His answer, 'The brown one.' That's Molly. I, of course, cried. I told him I was going to drive home right away and just tell work I was going to be late getting back. Dad told me he had moved her from the road onto our lawn for me and she would be there when I got there.

For those of you who remember from my past posts about our dogs and puppies, Molly is Chase's dog that he had picked out before we were married, she is a purebred chocolate lab that he got for free from a cousin, and he loved her. She was well mannered, VERY energetic, and had to be in charge. There was no way Mojo could walk a step in front of her when we went on walks, or get the ball before her when they played fetch; that was not allowed. Chase was at work and did not know what happened yet. I called his phone hoping that maybe he was in the break trailer at lunch but he did not answer my frantic calls.

I got to my house and saw a police car next to my house waiting for me. That was the last thing on my mind though. I pulled in to the driveway and saw Molly laying on the grass, where she usually does, only this time she did not move when she heard the car on the gravel. The police officer got called by the people who hit Molly. He said there was nothing I had to do, but because he got a call he just had to come get my information and he would open and close the file today. He said the people were tourists heading to our from Waterton.

How did she get off her chain? I have no idea. She is Houdini I think. I kneeled next to her expecting her chain collar to be broken or maybe it had slid off her neck and that's how she got off. Nope. It was still on, in tact, and in fact still tight around her neck. So I walked over to her tie up chain. The clasp was on the ground, not broken, not open, not anything. I have no idea how she did it. How I wish we would have had our dog runs in place. We have a dog run ready for us and everything, we were just waiting for Chase and his brother to have the same night off to go pick it up so Molly and Mojo have been on chains outside while I'm at work.

Mojo is not the same dog now. The day it happened I sat inside with him while I ate my lunch. He was on his dog bed, I was on the couch arms length away from him, and he whined the whole time. He didn't care if I pet him or talked to him, he was just sad. Then of course, I was sad. He was inside all day Sunday while our friends and their kids were there and he didn't care if people walked in and out of the house, if the kids laid on him, if the baby pulled his hair, nothing. He just laid there. Which is good because we have a baby coming, but sad that his behavior changed because of what happened to Molly. Chase called me back after I was back at work around 3:30 and he just knew. I told him Dad had called me on my lunch break and he immediately asked if one of the dogs had been hit. Then he asked which one, and I told him it was his. He left work early so he could be home when it was still light outside to bury her. We took her up to his parents house and buried her along the fence line where Chase's family dog is buried. I was very sad the whole day. We had plans to breed Molly again this spring with another purebred lab. Oh how I would have loved to have puppies again.

You can look back on my older posts to see pictures of Molly. Still can't believe she won't be running to greet me everyday when I pull in. She will be missed. Our Molly Brown. :(
