10k

September 10, 2011

Nervous. Extremely nervous. Excited. Anxious. That morning I was up early packing a diaper bag, eating a good breakfast at just the right time and making sure I had everything I needed. Water bottles, a snack, etc. Some friends and I decided to participate in the Glenwood Fun Run, which is a 10k or a 5k. This is my first race since I was in high school. And I've been out of school so long now that I don't even think that counts, so it's safe to say this is my first big race. However, I did not have a 'race' mentality. I have been running and training for this but my goal was to just finish. Kimberley was my training buddy and the one goal in the race we did strive for was to keep our kilometre average pace under 9:00 minute. 9 minutes at 10 kms would mean a 10k in an hour and a half. We wanted to do it in less than that. We trained at a faster pace but still walked if we needed to. We would just make sure we walked briskly and not for too long so our muscles wouldn't get cold. This strategy worked very well for us. I'm sure without me as a hinderance Kim could have just gone and ran the whole thing, but she stuck by me all through training and all through the race and I love her for it.

My running buddy Kim and I with our first race grab bag. It had a granola bar, a bottle of water, a wrist band, a t-shirt, and our number for the race.
Ready to go, but I was soooooo nervous!

My baby girl with me on my big day.

Cammi, Kimber, Jessica, Jaclyne, and Jami literally seconds before we stepped over to the start line. 4 out of 5 of us are moms, and 3 of those 4 have had a kid in the last year. Kim's little guy is a year and a half and then Zayah is the next oldest at 7 months. So we had kids in 7 months or less!

On your Mark... get set..... GO!!!

This is Kimber and I just about to cross the finish line! We started at the end of the pack and ended toward the end but the point is, we finished.

Right after we were done! So exhausted!

All of us together at the end!

Race times aren't officially up on the website yet and we didn't go check our times but, Kim and I had our 'runkeeper' app going on the iphone as we were running and we are pretty sure we came in around an hour and 25 minutes! Just under our goal but we did it!

Training now starts this week for my half marathon I am signed up for in December in Las Vegas!

Anyone out there that is a long distance runner please please please send me tips. Eating the days before, shoes that are good to train and run in, breathing tips, a good timing goal for the half. I have never done one and I am sure I will be at the end of the pack but having a good goal to stick to would be nice.

Thanks!

6 Months

Lots of things have happened lately...

Swimming, Camping, 6 months shots, 6 month check up, crawling, pulling herself up on things and STANDING!

I can't believe it.

August Long weekend swimming away... she loves splashing in the water!

Big floppy hat... gotta love a big floppy hat

Camping in Kalispell with Grandma and Grandpa = baths in the trailers sink.. :)

Peek a boo baby!

Daddy comes home on days off and we LOVE that!

Hair long enough to put bows in it now! Lots of new options now...

Standing against the laundry basket

Every morning when I go get her she is standing up in her crib waiting for me.. :)

My little family...

My gorgeous little girl.

Zayah has been army crawling and scooting and crawling up on her feet instead of her knees. She started officially crawling on her knees at the beginning of this month. I didn't write down the exact day because she had been crawling and moving for so long, so I am not really sure how to document that.

On August 13, 2011 Chase and I were just hanging out in the living room... Chase was sitting on the couch with the recliner rest out and I was on the other couch across the room. Out of nowhere Zayah just grabbed the end of Chase's foot rest and pulled herself to a stand right in front of us. It looked like it was so easy to her and Chase and I were shocked. I'm glad he was home for it though.

Zayah's 6 month shots went soooooo well!! Only 1 needle at 6 months and she has done really well with the 1st needle all the other times so I was hoping it would be ok.. And it was! One little whine, stuck a toy in front of her and whining over. :) phew. Her shots were on August 16 and this was the first time I went to shots without Chase so I'm glad it went well.

She also had her 6 month check up with our Doctor that week and he is still in awe of how strong she is. She will walk with you if you are holding her hands. She is crawling and moving everywhere. She is on her belly then her back then her knees then her butt all in a matter of seconds. He kept looking at her and telling me that she will be walking by 9 months for sure. Zayah weighed in at 19 pounds and is 27 inches long. We love every pound and inch of her.

She is babbling a lot as well. Da da da da ... Ma ma ma ma.... Ba ba ba ba..

She will repeat it back to you when you say it to her. She shakes her head no no no no no...

I also found out this week that Zayah LOVES music! When she is playing in the living room I have the tv on and anytime the theme song of a show comes on, or a commercial with a jingle comes on,or anything like that she whips her head around to look at the tv and stares until the song is over. I think I'm gonna love that about her! :)

I think that is all for now.

Baby Bullet

Yes I bought the baby bullet. No it wasn't on an infomercial. It was on sale up here at Canadian Tire for $20 cheaper then it usually is. I bought it well before Zayah would be able to eat baby food but I can't pass up a sale.

It comes with a booklet that tells you what foods are ok to introduce at what ages. So the first things I bought were a zucchini, a sweet potato, and an avocado. I only bought one of each. 1 zucchini can fill 5 baby food jars. 1 Sweet Potato can fill up 10 baby food jars! I haven't done the avocado yet but Zayah LOVES the zucchini and the sweet potato! YAY!

Sweet Potatoes boiling to make them soft before they get blended.

These are the jars that come with the baby bullet and they are full of zucchini. They have a date strip on the top that you can turn to the date you made the food so you don't forget. They can last 3 days in the fridge and 30 days in the freezer!

My favorite things about making my own baby food are, first of all, that it is cheap! And second of all you don't add anything extra to the food! You just blend up a vegetable and add the amount of water it says to add and Voila! Done!

And Zayah likes what she has eaten so far so double bonus!!!

Documenting

Some of these pictures are duplicates so sorry about that but I have things on my Calendar that I need to get down before I forget.

Zayah celebrated her first Canada Day..

At the end of June Zayah was going through a big growth spurt. She wanted to eat every 2 hours and I would nurse her and she would be hungry for another 3 ounces of formula. So Judy suggested that even though she isn't 6 months yet she might need some rice cereal to help get her full.

On July 2, 2011 we put Zayah in her highchair for the first time and gave her rice cereal for the first time. I didn't even have baby bowls and only had one random baby food spoon so we had to use a tupperware bowl until I went to the store to get some more supplies.

First bite

Zayah's first messy food face. :)

We also started putting rice cereal in with her formula to give her some more food. I am still nursing her occasionally but only if she wakes up in the night and like 1 other time during the day. Other than that she is on bottles and food.

Something else on my calendar, not about Zayah; Chase's brother Levi and his wife Robbyn had a new baby on July 6, 2011. They named him Cooper and it's their 1st boy after having 2 girls. He is adorable.

On July 12, 2011 Aunt Channing blended up a banana and we gave Z that. This is her face during... :) hahah

This is just plain adorable

Z's first time up Bears Hump, July 5, 2011

Too much playing in the sun = passed out and drooling on her pillow. :)

Her new little dress she wore to church for the first time this month.

On the Rowe Lake hike with her Dad

Just driving us around Waterton. ;)

Cute little Grammy J with Z.

After her bath... cutie

When John's family was in town we swam at the Beazer hole and Zayah loves to go in the water even though it's freezing! and she doesn't even cry!!

She is Canadian Baby for sure..

In all the way up to her chest and she just sat with me in the water...

First set of shades... and she left them on too so bonus!

We have incorporated baby food into her diet to keep her full now as well.

On July 14th she had Zucchini for the first time and loved it!

On July 15th we tried Sweet Potatoes and she liked them too!

We finished out the zucchini, waited a few days and then finished out he sweet potatoes. She has always been such a good eater and has pretty much taken anything we have given her.

That is it for now...
